Overview of fishing:

The rivers, Twiss and Doe, start high up in the fells, they meander across their respective valleys, Kingsdale for the Doe and Chapel-ie-Dale for the Twiss before entering the steeper falls. With just sheep as company, the curlew and lapwing calling across time, it’s an idyllic place to spend a warm spring day or beautiful summer’s evening.

Ingleton Waterfalls provides more challenging fishing; with almost three miles of tumbling cascades, deep rock pools, heady waterfalls and crashing cataracts, the waterfalls are for the adventurous, mobile, angler, armed with a trusty six to eight foot, two to four weight, a few flies, scoop net and good strong boots or waders. There are pools up here that have hardly been fished, and brownies that have never seen an artificial fly – think you’re skilled enough? Come pocket water fishing on the Doe and the Twiss and find out! Don’t forget the inflatable vest and take care on the exposed rock ledges!

Overview of fishing:

Below Ingleton the two rivers join to form the River Greta; this has a wider, slower and more sedate flow – still quick by lowland river standards. There are long, slow glides, to test your dry fly presentation skills. Deep rock strewn pools hiding the big returning River Lune brownies, or the shy and wily sea-trout, perhaps as the trout season comes to a close, a mighty King of fish the Atlantic Salmon.

Access is straightforward using public footpaths although care is required as in places the banks may have become unstable during floods and there are overhead wires.

Overview of fishing:

Both Austwick Beck and Clapham Beck are fed from underground streams which rise from the limestone caves of Inglebrough in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The lower part of the water, where Austwick Beck and Clapham Beck combine to form the River Wenning, is excellent brown trout water. The river was also well known for sea trout which still come upstream from the River Lune. The club acquired  this water in 2023 and is working to improve access. There are overhead cables, and the path and stiles need attention; so please take care.
